Expired or Missing Thawte Root certificate during installation
This may occur in older browsers when attempting to install Practical Scriptwriter.
You may also be experiencing the same problem with other software installs.


To update your certificates for Internet Explorer, follow these steps.


  • Select Tools > Internet Options

  • Select the Contents tab and click the Certificates button

  • Select the Trusted Root Certificates tab and locate a certificate entitled 'Thawte Premium Server CA'. If it is missing or expired follow the rest of these steps

  • Go to the Thawte Homepage here and click on the Repository link at the bottom of the page.

  • Choose 'Root Certificates' under 'Thawte Roots'

  • The certificates are free, but you may have to register

  • Follow the instruction for download and accept the end user license

  • Open the ZIP file and copy the 'ThawteTePremiumServerCA.cer' file to your desktop. Double click the file and click the 'Install Certificate' button

  • Select 'Automatically select the certificate based on type of certificate' and click Next

  • Click finish and OK, your new certificate should now be inatalled

  • Select Tools > Options

  • Select the 'Advanced' tab and click the 'Manage Certificates' button

  • Select the Authorities tab and locate a certificate entitled 'Thawte Premium Server CA'. If it is missing or expired follow the rest of these steps

  • Go to the Thawte Homepage here and click on the Repository link at the bottom of the page.

  • Choose 'Root Certificates' under 'Thawte Roots'

  • The certificates are free, but you may have to register

  • Follow the instruction for download and accept the end user license

  • Open the ZIP file and copy the 'ThawteTePremiumServerCA.cer' file to your desktop. Double click the file and click the 'Install Certificate' button
